Bombay High Court Upholds Death Penalty for Gruesome Murder of Mother, Emphasizing Deterrence Against Severe Crimes

INTRODUCTION On October 1, 2024, The Bombay High Court affirmed death penalty awarded to Sunil Rama Kuchkoravi, for the brutal murder and cannibalistic killing of his 63-year-old mother in 2017. The crime scene involved gruesome acts of violence against a woman called Yallama Rama Kuchkoravi and it is was proven that the convict cut and tried to eat her vital organs. The court, which said this act fell into the ‘rarest of rare’ category, upheld the death sentence passed by Kolhapur Sessions Court.
