I am a Polish citizen who arrived in India in 2023 on tourist visa to get married to and settle down with an Indian citizen. After marriage, my tourist visa was converted to a spouse entry visa and extended till December 2024. Recently, I applied at FRRO to extend my visa for another year. Just like when I applied last year, this time also I showed FRRO a proof of being employed in Poland and working online from India, so I am financially independent of my husband (we also signed something similar to prenup in India) and can sustain myself here. However, this year FRRO said that this is a grey zone as I am not supposed to work (which was not a problem a year ago) and my husband is supposed to take care of me financially, and they asked me to provide a "proof of financial soundness of Indian spouse". I was surprised as there was no problem receiving X-1 visa last year with the same exact documents that I filed this year, without such proof about my spouse. The challenge that I am facing is that my husband does not have an employment contract. He does some freelancing for which he receives money in hand, not bank account. His main focus right now is working on building his own startup rather than working full-time, however he covers all his expenses either with money he's getting from freelancing or with financial support from his father, when needed. We also do not pay rent as he owns a house that we live in. So, the question that I have is: what documents can I provide FRRO with in this situation to prove financial soundness of my spouse and have my visa extended?
