My bike was purchased in the name of my Uncle (father’s brother) in the year 1994. The RC expired in the year 2009. My Uncle died issueless in the year 2007. Now I want to use that bike again. Can I transfer the RC in my name. What is the procedure. Please advice
Dear Sir, You have to contact local RTO office to know the procedure and accordingly get transferred the same in your name if legally possible.
Dear client, As per you query, to get the RC of your late uncle's bike transferred to your name, get a legal heir certificate or succession certificate from the Hindu Succession Act 1956 for proving that you are the legal heir to the vehicle. Then submit Form 31 under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, along with a death certificate, original RC, proof of insurance, PUC certificate, and proof of identity and address to the RTO where the bike had been registered. Since the RC had expired in 2009, you have to file Form 20 for re-registration and have the vehicle inspected for roadworthiness. If there are other legal heirs, they must issue a No Objection Certificate to seal the transfer. Feel free to book an appointment for a detailed discussion on the issue.
